Call for Projects: 2023

I am pleased to confirm, the M2A and COATED CDT has nine project spaces for the 2023 recruitment round, comprising 9 Engineering Doctorates (EngD). Entry for EngD projects is October 2023. Please note that this will be our final year for EngD funding opportunities and thus will be our last call by the scheme for projects under the current CDT.

The call is now open for industry partners to submit project proposals using the submission form attached. Due to our current funding, EngD projects must be focussed on a research question aligned to functional coatings – see examples on the informatic below.

Costings for the 2023 round are:

– EngD: £10,500 + VAT per annum for each of four years.

We ask that you kindly consider returning your proposals by Friday 2nd December 2022, as this will facilitate us being able to advertise projects over the Christmas break. However, we understand this may not always be feasible and so where this is not possible, our final closing date for proposal submissions is Friday 20th January 2023.

Confirmed projects will be advertised on the M2A website as soon as they are received, and it is anticipated that student recruitment adverts will be placed on national websites from the Christmas period and early on in the new year. We are happy to supply the advert should you wish to promote any projects via your own channels (e.g., social media). We will look to provision interview panels for March-April 2023 time.

To briefly outline the steps of the process, this will follow as:

• Submission of project proposal
• Internal review of i) project content for academic suitability, ii) supervision capacity, iii) equipment capacity
• Agreement from all parties to contractual terms
• Advertisement of project and open application round
• Project candidate shortlisting and interviews
• Candidate offer and appointment to project
