INDUCTION 2016

By Caitlin McCall

Starting our Engineering Doctorate, on the 19th of September 2016 we were invited to Bay Campus for the M2A Induction Event.  Divided into 3 streams, Functional Coatings, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, and Computational Modelling, we received our induction packs for the following months.

During the morning, the new cohort met the friendly M2A staff that will be helping us throughout our doctorates over the next few years.

Despite having been a student for 4 years, I was amazed at the sheer quantity of state of the art equipment that was based at Bay Campus, Swansea, shown throughout the tour provided by the M2A team.

The day came to a close with a social mixer; The new intake was given the opportunity to meet the current students. After feeling expectedly nervous about making such a big decision to undertake a doctorate programme, I felt reassured that this was the right decision.

Materials and Manufacturing Academy (M2A) provides industry led postgraduate research training based at Swansea University's new Bay Campus. M2A is part funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
